Koh Samui: a unique wedding destination
Koh Samui island.
Koh Samui is situated in the Gulf of Thailand in the southern province of Surat Thani. Located approximately 700 kilometres southeast of Bangkok, it is the Kingdom's third largest island after Phuket and Koh Chang.
Samui covers a total area of 247 sq km, measuring 25 kilometres at its longest point and 21 kilometres at its widest. The island is also known as Coconut Island as it gives harvest to over two million coconuts each month.
Samui was first discovered by only the most daring travellers who were rewarded by the outstanding natural beauty and the island quickly developed a reputation as a secret backpacker's retreat. But word of Samui's legendary atmosphere soon spread quickly and the friendly people, small island feel and totally relaxing environment encouraged more visitors.
When the airport opened in 1989, Samui suddenly became an destination available to a much wider group of travellers. Since then, the island's growth has been astonishing and Samui is now universally regarded as one of the top luxury destinations in the world.
Internationally recognised hotel chains, superstores, and shopping centres have appeared and transformed the look of many parts of the island. Almost all traces of the island's backpacker history have been erased, but yet the famed ambience and unique atmosphere of Samui have miraculously survived all the development. Strict building regulations have ensured that despite the fact the island can now boast all of the necessary modern facilities and infrastructure to compete with other worldwide destinations; it's maintained the magical relaxing environment and natural beauty that continues to enchant the many new visitors that arrive each year.
Samui is a beautiful tropical island with picture-perfect white sandy beaches and lush tropical forests that cover the mountains of the interior. It's a truly idyllic location with something to please everyone.
The island has now become the must visit place for travellers to Thailand and it’s location and extensive flight links make it the perfect base for discovering what South East Asia has to offer. Direct flights to Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong make Koh Samui the ideal hub for many visitors.
The only problem you may have is actually leaving the island behind.
